The Birth Squad was founded by Dr. Ijeoma Okwandu and Dr. Kimeshia Thomas, two obstetricians and gynecologists, who also happen to be best friends.
The Birth Squad strives to provide culturally competent health information to help women have the equitable pregnancy and birth experiences they deserve.
The Birth Squad believes birth can be an empowering experience through education. Dr. Okwandu and Dr. Thomas also host a podcast that explores pregnancy and birth experiences from real women with context from medical experts.
It's no secret that giving birth is scary, especially for black women. As black OB/GYNs, Dr. Okwandu and Dr. Thomas recognize the gaps in the healthcare system that are leading to rising maternal deaths. The Birth Squad aims to fill that gap by connecting you to a team that is committed to educating and empowering birthing individuals and those who support them through their birth journey.
